Machine learning is an exciting field to study. But what makes it so exciting?
It is exciting because it is all around us and yet most of us are unaware of it. Facebook’s feed has Machine Learning, google maps use them for navigation. Machine learning finds its application in almost every aspect of our lives. It is frightening as well interesting to think how our lives would have been without Machine Learning. Hence, it becomes quite important for us to understand what is it and how it works.

Now, What is Machine Learning?

Machine learning is a method of data analysis that automates analytical model building. It is a branch of artificial intelligence based on the idea that systems can learn from data, identify patterns and make decisions with minimal human intervention. In other words, Machine Learning is a field of computer science in which the machines are trained using some datasets so as to become capable of learning on their own. The ML algorithms are trained based on past experiences. The accuracy of the Machine Learning models depends upon the way it is built and the dataset on which it is trained. The more the training input, the higher is the accuracy.

Have you ever wondered how Instagram shows only reels that you are interested in or suggests people you know? All these involve Machine Learning.

Why is it important?

Data is the lifeblood of all businesses. Data-driven decisions increasingly make the difference between keeping up with the competition or falling further behind. Machine learning can be the key to unlocking the value of corporate and customer data and enacting decisions that keep a company ahead of the competition. To better understand the importance of machine learning let us go ahead and list certain instances where Machine learning is applied: online recommendation engines from Facebook, Netflix, Amazon, Apple’s Siri responding to your queries, facial recognition. It is quite hard for you to think of performing the above-mentioned tasks without the use of machine learning. Machine learning has become a significant competitive differentiator for many companies.

Machine learning has made dramatic improvements in the past few years, but we are still very far from reaching human performance. Many times, the machine needs the assistance of humans to complete its task. At Interactions, we have deployed Virtual Assistant solutions that seamlessly blend artificial with true human intelligence to deliver the highest level of accuracy and understanding.
